The majority of Savannah Roadwas recorded in Brigitte’s own home studio and, for the first time in her career, she self-produced the collection as well. Longtime friend and previous producer Brady Blade lent drums and percussion to various tracks, as well as his highly regarded opinion. “He basically stayed at my house, and gave me feedback when I asked for it,” shares Brigitte. “He’s great because he’s not afraid of anything musically. It rubs off…makes you feel like you can do anything. I love that about Brady. He’s my brother. I’m his sister.” Brigitte also brought in acclaimed engineer David Z (Prince, Etta James, Johnny Lang) and assistant engineer Sean Sullivan to help elevate the production.

Rows and rows of peaches grow
Weeds of purple
Line the road
Yonder field in lazy June
Push that plow
‘Til you see the moon
See the moon
Oh Savannah, Oh Savannah Road
Take me with you, take me where you go
Fill the barrels
Pick the fruit
Shake the trees
Clear to the roots
Nightfall meadow
Raise the fire
It’s coming down
So cool tonight, cool tonight
Oh Savannah, Oh Savannah road
Take me with you
Take me where you go
Back where I belong
Can you hear me calling
To my childhood home
OOHHHHH
OH Savannah, Oh Savannah Road
Take me with you
Take me where you go
OH Savannah, Oh Savannah Road
2. Say You Will Be Mine

Say you will be mine tonight
Say you will be mine
Words unspoken in the air have
Got me on the line
Ride against a shooting star
To the field below
Meet me there at half past dark and
Time will let us know
You can sing it out loud
You can whisper down low
Tell it to me pretty baby
Tell it to me slow
Put this heart in your hand so fine
No matter what the consequences say that you’ll be mine oh
Say that you’ll be mine
Are you thinking what I’m thinking
Do we both agree
Like the moon above so bright could you
Take a shine to me
You can sing it out loud
You can whisper down low
Tell it to me pretty baby
Tell it to me slow
Put this heart in your hand so fine
No matter what the consequences say that you’ll be mine oh
Say that you’ll be mine
You can take your own sweet time
But say that you’ll be mine
You can sing it out loud
You can whisper down low
Tell it to me pretty baby
Tell it to me slow
Put this heart in your hand so fine
No matter what the consequences say that you’ll be mine oh
Say that you’ll be mine

Run like a waterfall
No shoes on your feet
Lo, underneath it all
Rolling in the deep
Though you’re not a lonely one
And everybody’s kind
Sing now the day is done
Your scrapyard lullaby
Just one look I can see
Boy’s got soul
Boy’s got me
Dirt on the mission floor
Down upon your knees
Warm from the night before
Sunday never leaves
Though you may forget yourself
Your heart’s on your sleeve
Just one look I can see
Boy’s got soul
Boy’s got me
4. Please Believe Me
Written by Brigitte DeMeyer and Will Kimbrough

See the clouds go rolling by
See the stars fall from the sky
Since you had to leave
Love’s made a shadow out of me
Please please believe me
Oh yes you’ve got to know
Why you trying to free me
When you know I love you so
Hear the wind up on the hill
Hear my heart beat for you still
Oh I’ve been searching everywhere
But you’re oh so far from here
Please please believe me
Oh yes you’ve got to know
Why you trying to free me
When you know I love you so
People pointing everywhere
Said they saw you yesterday
I’ve been calling out your name
Please please believe me
Oh yes you’ve got to know
Why you trying to free me
When you know I love you so
5. Big Man’s Shoes
Lyrics by Brigitte DeMeyer

Seven o’clock, ol’ gypsy dog sits barking at the sun
Drop of a nail, chasing his tail just like it was
his master calling
Dinner is frying, he’s muddy lying,
on the pavement floor
Scratching at an itching that’ll linger ever more
Nothing ordinarily blue about what he seeks
Sitting there waiting, waiting for you, faithfully
If only to be
If only to be sitting, right there next to you
If only to be walking
Walking in the big man’s shoes
Fetching and running, hound river country
Oh it never grows old
If only to reach you, swinging gate greet you
Oh his world would be gold
Hour is nearing, heart’s growing weary,
oh but never for long
The sound of your footsteps is his favorite song
Lays his finest down there at your feet
Sitting there waiting, waiting for you faithfully
If only to be
If only to be sitting, right there next to you
If only to be walking
Walking in the big man’s shoes
6. Conjure Woman

Oh Miss Ella James, can you help me out
I’m in love with someone like you don’t know how
Hope the spirit comes
Comes and moves you now
Oh Miss Ella James can you help me out
I come all the way
All this way to find
If there is a voodoo spell you have in mind
Just to make that man
Make that man all mine
I come all the way to Lafayette to find
Conjure woman conjure up a love for me
I been waiting patiently
There’s a boy in Vicksburg and he sets me free
Conjure up a love for me
Oh Miss Ella James, help me catch that boy
He’s the one in old work boots and corduroy
Make him love me sweet, and I will bring him joy
Oh Miss Ella James please help me catch that boy
I brought every little thing you told me to
A little John the Conquer Root
Persimmon fine and turpentine and perfume too
All the things you told me to
Conjure Woman, help me please
Make that boy look back at me
Conjure Woman, cast your spell
Do the thing you do so well
Oh Miss Ella James can you help me out
I’m in love with someone like you don’t know how
7. Honey Hush
Written by Brigitte DeMeyer
©2013 Brigitte DeMeyer Music
Biscuits in the basket and some
Cherries dark and fine
Jelly on your fingers
Honey on your mind
Checkered tabled mason jars
And flowers growing wild
For a glimpse of your sweet kiss
I’d cross a country mile
Give me some sweet, sweet
Honey hush
I need your sweet, sweet,
Honey hush
Aprils swinging guitars singing
Love is on the vine
Got me 6 more days of road
To get me to your smile
You could spend all that you keep
And every loving dime
But to me what’s fine comes free
Just take a little time
Give me some sweet, sweet
Honey hush
I need your sweet, sweet,
Honey hush
8. Worker

Worker lay your hammer down
Enter here with comfort found
Lay you here upon my breast
Peace and comfort may you rest
May you rest
Fields of cotton miles of stone
Solace waits to heal your harm
Hallowed be my baby’s arms
Stained and weathered by the sun
By the sun
Worker lay your hammer down
‘Til the sun comes up
Love’s libation can be found
And I will fill your cup
Oh, lay it down
Harken to the roosters cry
While you labor I’ll abide
Take with you this heart sincere
And I will keep yours with me here
With me here
Worker lay your hammer down
Til the sun comes up
Love’s libation can be found
And I will fill your cup
Oh, lay it down
9. Home Ground

Distant and bittersweet
Arms of the home I seek
Dust underneath my long running heels
Carry me o’er the sea
Home ground
That’s where I wanna be
Back to the place
Where I hear my father
Speak to me
I found, there’s nothing out of reach
Long as I know I can back down to
Home ground
Wayward and weary boy
Restless upon the shore
Wing and a prayer gonna carry him free
There ‘neath the willow tree
Home ground
That’s where I want to be
Back to the place
Where I hear my father
Speak to me
I found, there’s nothing out of reach
Long as I know I can back down to
Home ground

Mmm mmm mmm mm mm
You made of salt, mister, you made of soul
You made of everything I want to know
You made of country, you made of coal
Where’d you go to, mister Lightnin’ Poor
Mmm mmm mmm mm mm
Cigar-box and chicken wire picking away
East side springtime Texas again
Hurricaning on an old tin roof
Don’t let it burn you it’s a 100 proof
SOLO
Can’t get ol’ lightning on an airplane ride
Flat top and fingers come and watch them fly
He got a Cadillac but no telephone
I’m calling for you Mr. Lightnin’ Poor
Mmm mm mm
Play for tips and whiskey-poor Lightnin’
Cadillac-ing gypsy-poor Lightnin’
Got me feeling tipsy-poor Lightnin’
Where’d you up and go- Mr. Lightnin’ Poor
Mmm mm mm
11. Simmer Right
Written by Brigitte DeMeyer and Will Kimbrough

Guts and greasy everywhere
Every time you come ‘round here
Grits and glory in your hymn
Is all you need to reel me in
Stir the soup let it simmer right
Spice the skillet
Keep the lid on tight
Dash that pepper
Just like you like
Stir the soup
Let it simmer right
Bring me posies and a cherry coke
Mash potato melt the butter slow
Little by little see the gravy flow
Spoon some sugar up into that bowl
Light a candle put it on the shelf
Come on over for a cooling spell
I’ll be humming listen for the bell
Don’t you worry you can be yourself
Stir the soup let it simmer right
Spice the skillet
Keep the lid on tight
Dash that pepper
Just like you like
Stir the soup
Let it simmer right
12. Build Me A Fire
Written by Brigitte DeMeyer and Will Kimbrough

Kindred soldier
Tin pan hold ‘em
Maiden arrow pointing gone
Walked a child hood
Stealing shadows
Hand-a-holding for the young
Schoolhouse yonder
Haystack wander
Maybe someday’s around the bend
Hey mister, hey Mrs., anywhere is fine
Just need a place to lay my head
This lone alley’s gonna be my home tonight
Sleep by an old tin can that’ll be alright
If it get’s too cold
If it get’s too cold
Gonna build me a fire
For my pillow
Send me flowers
Lend me cover from the rain
Take me forward
To the hour
I can go home again
Dresses gold
Stars of silver
Would you bear such finery
Ere to bring a
Smile from Heaven
And mother here to come for me
This lone alley’s gonna be my home tonight
Sleep by an old tin can that’ll be alright
If it get’s too cold
If it get’s too cold
Gonna build me a fire
13. My Someday
Written by Brigitte DeMeyer and Will Kimbrough

When my someday comes for me
Gonna carve our names upon that tree
Gonna write forever in the bark
Me and you across my heart
When my someday comes for me
You’ve been gone and you’ve been home
And you’re the finest that I know
Gonna call upon the stars above
Bring to me oh mother love
All the seeds that I have sewn
Someday, Someday
Someday come and carry me away
Oh I’ve see down and I’ve seen up
I’m just another child of God
No more sorrow no more rough
Just a little is enough
And I’ll be walking in the sun
Someday, Someday
Someday come and carry me away
Someday, Someday
Someday come and carry me away
Someday come and carry me away
